5 Pre-New Year Bootcamp Tips
December 21, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
There’s still a little time to do a few important things before Christmas and New Year’s to make sure your bootcamps are full, fun, and profitable.
Do these today and you’ll have 25% more campers by mid-January.
Here we go:
#5 Inspire people with your facebook page and fanpage as a place of community/social support.
First, make sure that your personal profile is professional, and that you have anything “non-professional” hidden from public view.
Second, post one inspiring quote first thing in the morning.
Third, build a fan page for your bootcamp where you recognize one camper every day and post a summary of the workout – and videos of the camps as well. Make it fun to be part of your bootcamp fan page.
#4 – Remind your clients in person, by email, or via text message:
“If you fall “off the wagon” cut your losses, don’t worry about it, and get right back on track. Immediately. It’s minor damage that can be dealt with. Stay STRONG!”
This is an essential message that your clients need to hear at this time of year when many of them are panicking about overeating at parties. If you can be that voice of assurance and reason, they’ll love you for it.
#3 – Get your New Year’s Transformation Contests all set up.
Be prepared to take before photos or give a handout to your campers on how to take photos (good lighting, with newspaper, from front, sides, and back, etc.) and how to take measurements (limb and waist circumferences, body fat scales, etc.)
#2 – Create a take-home “holiday workout” program for your campers.
Give them a quickie workout they can do on their own for 10-15 minutes each day so they maintain their fitness during the bootcamp break and so that they don’t feel guilty about skipping workouts over the holidays. Again, being a consistent source of reassurance will give you more authority in their view.
#1 – Design some very cool challenge workouts that will inspire your campers to new levels when they get back.
If you aren’t familiar with the challenge workout set-up or you need some help designing some new and original sessions for the New Year, then don’t worry, because the TT Bootcamps “Done-For-You” workout manual has a bunch of proven workout challenges and 21 complete no-equipment workouts that will take a load of work off of your shoulders.
(That way you’ll come back in the New Year well rested and with new, awesome bodyweight bootcamp workouts.)

5 Bootcamp Secrets to Get More Fat Burning Results for Your Clients
December 14, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
I was just reviewing a big file of all the new exercise, diet, and research proven fat burning tips I wrote down for 2009, and I wanted to share 5 BIGGIES that can help your clients get more results AND make your awesome workers even awesome-r..
So here we go:
#5 – Recent research shows shuttle-running is tougher than running intervals in a straight line…
…so if you want to help your clients burn fat faster than ever, make sure you incorporate old-school shuttle runs (i.e. classic suicide type drills) into your fat burning interval programs.
#4 – Encourage your clients to use a food log. When they ask why, tell them I said so.
No seriously, tell them this:
“According to Men’s Health (Feb 2009, p 38), keeping a food log helped subjects lose 3.5 more pounds than subjects that didn’t keep the log.”
#3 – Demand that your clients hit a personal best in each workout.
This is an oldie, but a goodie. There are a few reasons you need to do this:
a) First of all, everyone loves progress, and if you can get them to achieve a record each workout (i.e. could be # of pushups, plank
time, etc.), then they will feel a HUGE sense of accomplishment
b) More personal bests = more results. Plain and simple.
c) They will get addicted to the workouts, and always want to come back for more attempts at breaking records…thus becoming raving fans of your camps and referral machines.
#2 – Remind them that they need you, and here’s the proof:
“According to Men’s Health magazine, (Dec, 2009), beginners who work with trainers get more results than beginners who workout by themselves”. Guaranteed.
#1 – Bring a motivational quote to every class.
You might say it at the start, middle and end of every class, or you might print it out and give everyone the quote to take with them, or you might simply put it on your bootcamp’s Facebook fan page every morning.
Regardless of how you deliver the motivation, I promise you that it will keep your campers connected to you AND it will elevate your expert status even more in their eyes.
Here’s the first motivational quote you can share with them:
“Be loud and proud of the healthy changes you are making in your life. There are many more folks secretly wishing someone will take charge and be a healthy role model for them. It might not happen overnight, but if you continue to lead by healthy example – without preaching or being condescending – you can build an entourage that will help you reach the next level.” – Craig Ballantyne

3 More Holiday Bootcamp Marketing Tips
December 10, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
Filed under Bootcamp Marketing Tip, Fitness Bootcamp Marketing
Winter arrived in Toronto on Wednesday…and its only 2 weeks till Christmas…but you can still be pushing to fill your bootcamps and working on plans to get more campers in 2K10…
So I asked Pat Rigsby, bootcamp-filling guru, for his best advices on what you can do right now…
Tip #1 – Reward your current members.
Send a personal card to all of your campers and consider adding a $20 gift card to Starbucks or something similar. While some
businesses will send cards, few if any will actually give ‘real’ gifts.
You’ll stand out from the crowd this holiday season and it will lead to referral word of mouth around holiday parties so that you’ll have more people calling to enroll in your camps.
Tip #2 – Get your MIA campers back on the scene.
Design a reactivation campaign to get all of your former campers and clients back on board for January. They’re going to go somewhere to try to reach their fitness goals in January – make sure it’s your camp.
Pat has more info on a bootcamper reactivation strategy here:
=> http://tinyurl.com/reactivatebootcampers
Tip #3 – Launch a New Year’s Transformation Contest.
Model what Turbulence Training does with the TT Transformation Challenges and use it to motivate your campers, produce referrals and generate buzz about your camp.
For more info, check out:
=> http://www.TransformationContest.com
Bonus Tip #4 – Create a 21-Day Bootcamp Program
Consider offering a short term program to capitalize on people’s new found motivation. Many of Pat’s Bootcamp Blueprint members are offering a ‘Drop a Dress Size in 21 Days’ program with great success.

Those are easy to implement to make sure that you’re off to an amazing start for 2K10, while finishing strong in 2009.

Bootcamp Blueprint System
October 18, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
In my neighborhood here in Toronto there is a bootcamp at a local park that makes me very sad.
Even my dog wants nothing to do with it, and he loves any excuse to get attention.
You see, the camp started out strong with about 12 women, but each week I notice fewer and fewer clients showing up.
I think they are down to about 6 people now.
Sad, isn’t it?
Frankly, I’ve watched some of the classes and the workouts leave a lot to be desired.
After all, 5lbs dumbbell curls for 20 reps isn’t my idea of a workout, if you know what I mean (especially if you’ve checked out my NO-equipment TT bootcamp programs).
But what hurts this bootcamp more than anything else is that they have no business system blueprint.
I don’t think they have any type of business mentor, and they are just making up their marketing as they go along.
Unfortunately, with that approach, these poor trainers are going to go out of business pretty soon.
The bottom line is that ALL bootcamps need a blueprint system…one that can be put into place by other trainers so that you don’t need to do all the work.
And that way, you keep your clients happy and just as important, actually coming back every week.
If you need help with systems and getting clients to come back week in and week out so that your bootcamps are recession proof, then you need, “The 6-Figure Bootcamp Blueprint Guide” from BJ Gaddour.
That’s just one of the bonuses you get with the TT Bootcamp system.

BJ’s blueprint will help you build your bootcamps so that you’ll have less stress, more time off, and more energy for your life outside of work.
To your success,

PS – If you run a bootcamp, you also need…
BJ’s done-for-you nutrition guideline that he gives to his clients.
That’s another one of the bonuses you get here:
After all, we know that nutrition is more important than exercise for our client’s results, so you need to make sure they are getting everything they need to succeed.

How to Get More Bootcamp Clients
September 28, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
Filed under Bootcamp Marketing Tip, Fitness Bootcamp Marketing, Uncategorized
Been getting a lot of emails from bootcamp trainers recently who are loving
the TT Bootcamps workouts but still want more clients to take their
bootcamps to the next level…
So I asked bootcamp marketing guru Chris McCombs for ideas, and here’s what
he gave me:
1) Talk to EVERYONE
Wherever you go in your local area, just start talking to people.
Don’t come across as salesy or pushy, but just start the conversation going
and SOMEHOW turn it around to your boot camps… like start telling a funny
story of something that happened at your boot camp last night… whatever it
is, just turn the conversation towards your boot camps, and it they’re
interested they’ll ask more it.
That’s easy and natural.
2) Set Up Simple Facebook Ads
Facebook ads are a GREAT way to get clients.. just make sure to target your
ads as deep as possible.
So if you serve 7 different cites, create a separate targeted ad for each
one and the put the name of the city in each ad… and target your
demographics as deep as possible as well…
If your biggest audience is 25- 45 single females, then that’s who you
should target in your ads.
Again, simple and natural.

Thanks Chris.

3 Tips From the Bootcamp Bootcamp Weekend
September 15, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
Filed under Bootcamp Marketing Tip, Fitness Bootcamp Marketing, Fitness Marketing
Do anything good last weekend?
I had a couple of family events, including a good ol’ family reunion.
Great times!
But that meant I couldn’t make it to the “Bootcamp Bootcamp” in
Louisville, Kentucky on the weekend.
So I had my good buddy, Pat Rigsby, give us three of the best darn
bootcamp tips from the weekend…
********************************************************************
3 Killer Tips From Bootcamp Bootcamp – By Pat Rigsby
We just wrapped up an incredible weekend with about 100 of the top
Fitness Bootcamp owners in the world at the first ever Bootcamp
Bootcamp.
We covered everything from the Top 5 Lead Generation Strategies for
Bootcamps to ways camp owners can maximize results for their members
using tools like bands, kettlebells and the TRX.
There had to be over 100 tips, tricks and strategies shared that
could propel a new camp to the six-figure mark in a hurry, but
sharing all 100 would make for a pretty long post – so here are my
top 3.
#1 – Pick two lead generation strategies and become epic at them.
Most mediocre business owners dabble in a bunch of things instead
of really committing to anything. Don’t be one of them.
Pick two high ROI lead generation strategies like public speaking
or power networking – and work them relentlessly.
You’ll get into a rhythm, be able to test and tweak and more than
anything else – you’ll get better and more confident at them.
So spend the next 90 days focusing on your top two lead generation
strategies and watch you business explode.
#2 – Don’t spend all your time chasing new people.
It’s often been said that it costs 10X as much to acquire a new
client as it does to re-sell and existing one.
Then why do most bootcamp owners spend all their ‘business growth
time’ chasing new prospects?
I can’t answer that – but I can tell you it’s a mistake.
Start spending more of your time focusing on internal marketing and
less on external marketing and your business will grow twice as
fast.
Instead of only offering one month of camp at a time, start selling
3 or 6 month memberships – or at least putting people on
auto-renweing memberships.
If you can get people to stay with you for 6 months instead of
four, spend $249 a month with you instead of $199 through upselling
them on Nutritional Coaching programs or supplements and get them
to refer someone here and there – your income will multiply right
before your eyes.
#3 – Great marketing is no substitute for a great camp.
I don’t care how good your marketing is, if you’re not delivering
great workouts with tons of energy – your camp will never become a
destination and you’ll forever be chasing new campers.
You have to create an atmosphere that campers love and can’t stop
raving about.
Greet them by name, provide better workouts, add music to the
workouts and create a competitive environment with Transformation
Contests.
If you want your campers to stay longer and refer often – you have
to make your camp more than a workout – it has to be an experience.
There you go – 3 tips that are easy to implement and guaranteed to
grow your business.
********************************************************************
Thanks Pat, awesome stuff!
Now get out there and apply those tips to your bootcamp,
Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
PS – If you need more time to spend on working your top two lead
generations strategies…
…than “outsource” your workout design to the Turbulence Training
Bootcamp Workout programs.
You’ll get 31 done-for-you, no-equipment workouts – plus a whole lot
more marketing tips from top bootcamp biz owners.

2 Bootcamp Challenges for You
August 19, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
Filed under Bootcamp Marketing Tip, Bootcamp Success Stories, Fitness Bootcamp Marketing
Just finishing up 7 days here in Europe…did 3 days in Paris, 2 in
Amsterdam, and today we were in Brussels.
All the while filming TT workout videos and having fun.
But today while walking down one of the main shopping streets here
in Brussels I stumbled across a gym offering Cardio Bootcamp
Workouts.
That’s right, bootcamps have hit Europe.
They are everywhere, and they are radically changing the fitness
industry…so you must keep pushing to get ahead and the lead the
way in your city…or else!
And bootcamps aren’t just for big cities like New York and Los
Angeles (and Brussels?)…
In fact, I did two interviews last week with small town, big money
bootcamp owners Donovan Owens and Ben Warstler, about how they have
built 6-figure bootcamps.
It’s amazing, after all, that Ben has 170 campers in a town of only
3000 people.
And both of those guys told me their secret weapon was networking
and getting out there in the community.
I mean, frankly, you can’t even call that work…but that’s what
they are doing to create the fastest way to a 6-figure income in the
fitness industry.
So my challenge to you today is this…actually, two challenges.
First, use the Donovan Owens “Power-Networking” plan and list the
top 5 “power brokers” in your town that you can network with
tomorrow. Who do you know that knows someone who you should know?
As Donovan told me, he’s always on the phone networking. (Just like
I’m always doing online networking – and I love it and the results
it brings me.) So make that list and attack it tomorrow.
Your second challenge is to copy Ben’s “Small Town Joint Venture”
strategy.
I want you to list the top 5 businesses in your town that you can
work with to cross-promote your services and theirs. From restaurants
to hotels to yoga studios, there are dozens of business that you can
work with…even in a small town.
So that’s it. Get to work and let me know how it goes.
Au revoir mes amis,
Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
Author, TTBootcamps.com
PS – Ironically, the last thing you should be spending your time on
as a 6-figure bootcamp owner is…
…designing workouts.
After all, that won’t grow your biz.
And since I bet that you and I share about 95% of the same training
philosophy, why not take the training burden off of your shoulders
and use the 21 Done-For-You workouts that I’ve designed.
Grab your workouts here and focus on building your bootcamps with
networking and joint ventures
There’s gold in the relationships you can build for your camps!

Fitness Bootcamp Marketing : Do You Make This HUGE Mistake With Your Fitness Bootcamp Workouts?
July 6, 2009 by Craig Ballantyne
I spent an entire weekend with bootcamp gurus Steve Hochman, Chris McCombs, and and Bedros Keuilian…
Awesome times!
They taught me so much about running fitness bootcamps, and I am going to interview them for the new bootcamp workout blog I’m building.
Stay tuned for secrets on how to build an amazing fitness bootcamp business while working just a few hours per day.
Can’t wait…
But in the meantime, let’s talk about 2nd biggest mistake in most bootcamp workouts that drives me freaking insane.
I saw a perfectly terrible example of it this morning.
As you might know, I walk my puppy, Bally the Dog, every morning here in Toronto, and five times per week we walk by a bootcamp class.
And every single day these trainers are doing something wrong.
Today, the big mistake was letting the class do the exercises with bad form.
Back when I was training 8-12 clients per day, I would get SEETHING mad watching other trainers put their clients through exercises while allowing bad form.
I bet my BP went to 220/160 watching that crap.
So negligent, and so ignorant.
Don’t you agree that this is irresponsible?
Teaching someone to do an exercise is NOT hard!
I just don’t understand why trainers allow bad form. So what if you are training 10-20 people at the same time, there’s no reason to allow it.
I know you’re sitting there nodding your head and agreeing with me.
I bet you see bad form all the time and it probably makes you mad too.
So let’s agree to do something about it. Let’s agree to commit to stressing proper form in our classes…after all, that will give our clients BETTER results!
Let me know how your fight against bad form goes,
Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
